Virtual desktop available RAM: 248 MB
Browser RAM consumption: 1.75 GB
Browser tabs open: 5
My browsers are the biggest resource hog on my virtual desktop.
RAM: close to 50% of my allocated RAM being consumed by my browser.
CPU: over 90% of my CPU being consumed by my browser.
My virtual desktop’s resources are maximized and my performance is suffering while at the same time, my endpoint is idle.
As an end user (I’ve done this many times), I start using my endpoints browser to free up resources on my virtual desktop. It works, but I hate the experience because I have to keep minimizing and maximizing my virtual desktop session to interact with my local browser.
With the XenApp and XenDesktop 7.16 release, my local browser gets integrated with my virtual desktop’s browser with Browser Content Redirection. This helps provide a seamless experience while freeing up virtual desktop resources.
If we look at my browser window, the items highlighted in blue are executing on my virtual desktop while the red highlighted items are from my endpoint’s browser. Both get integrated into a single interface within my virtual desktop.

And you can even leverage GPU on the endpoint with Browser Content Redirection. See Point #4 in CTX230052.
