A short blog, but a good one.

New Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop Visio stencils, just in time for the 7.12 release.

visio712Items to note:

  1. Workspace Environment Manager: New component means new Visio stencil
  2. Federated Authentication Service: This feature was released in 7.11, but I didn’t have an image for it. Omission corrected
  3. Active Directory: Image is a replacement for an older image
  4. Machine Catalog: I needed an image for a diagram and realized it didn’t exist!

And because some of you continue to ask nicely, I created a set of Visio stencils in the Visio 2003-2010 format.

My wife always tells me that admitting to my mistakes will make me feel better (I think she is wrong, but I’ll give it a try). So here it goes…

The year was 2004 and I was drawing a Citrix Presentation Server diagram. Unfortunately, Citrix didn’t have a set of Visio stencils so I created my own. Over the past 11 years, I (reluctantly at first) updated these to include new components and drastically changed the style.

Throughout many of those same years, I’ve been talking about Provisioning Services, demonstrating Provisioning Services, diagramming Provisioning Services and using Provisioning Services (but not dreaming about Provisioning Services, I’m not that crazy). So how could I have skipped creating a Visio stencil for Provisioning Services?

I made a mistake. There, I said it. Do I feel better? NO. Not in the slightest.

But you know what makes me feel better? Doing something about it.

And I did just that. I created a Visio stencil for Provisioning Services!!!

But that’s not all. With the XenApp and XenDesktop 7.8 release, I also created new Visio stencils for

  • XenApp Secure Browser
  • AppDisk
  • AppDNA (I really think it looks like a double helix)

7.8 stencils

And because some of you asked nicely, I also created a set of Visio stencils in the Visio 2003-2010 format (Note: No updates for the 7.9 release).

Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop 7.7 Visio Stencils

Welcome 2016!

Over my end of year holiday, I met up with a friend from my old hometown and he was telling me some of the funny things his kids say and do. One was a conversation between the kid and his teacher…

The teacher asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

The kid said “I want to be a dentist. They make lots of money and only work 4 days a week.”

The teacher responds “But money can’t buy happiness.”

The kid says “Not true. Money can buy a WaveRunner. Have you ever seen a sad person on a WaveRunner?”

(I guess he watches Daniel Tosh).

I want to start the year by bringing a little bit of happiness to your life.

I know this isn’t as good as a WaveRunner, but it is still pretty good… updated Microsoft Visio stencils for Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop 7.7.

It has been about a year and a half since I last updated these, and since that time, I’ve added a few new stencils:

Citrix XenApp 7.6 and XenDesktop 7.6 Visio Stencils!

The latest Visio Stencils are for Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop 7.8.

As you saw from my previous post, Citrix now has Linux virtual desktops. You know what this means?

High-level

NEW VISIO STENCILS!!!

The new set for XenApp and XenDesktop 7.6 includes

  1. Linux virtual desktop
  2. Receiver
  3. GPU/vGPU
  4. Driver

And remember, pre-built diagrams that you can modify are also included as a stencil (one of my better ideas). Just drag the stencil into your drawing and perform an “Ungroup” operation. You can now modify to fit your needs.

Enjoy!

Latest updates to the Citrix Visio Stencils

As you saw in a previous blog, I created a new set of Visio stencils for XenApp 7.5 and XenDesktop 7.5 that included full diagrams within the stencil (I’m still impressed with this idea J)

Over the last few months, I’ve had to create a few more architecture diagrams and realized I needed a few more items. I’ve incorporated them into the latest stencil update. Recent additions include:

  • New virtual desktop model: DesktopPlayer
  • New user roles: User, Admin and Support
  • New hardware: SSD and HDD

Hopefully by now, you’ve heard of Citrix Project Accelerator. If not, I suggest you take a look at the following blogs:

By spending a little time in the Assess phase, Project Accelerator creates this awesome looking diagram

Arch

The truth is, this diagram took many, many, many revisions. We wanted to create something that was easy to follow while providing the most important information people wanted to see, which included IOPS, servers, VMs, storage space, desktop images, infrastructure components, and so much more. It took a few revisions before I had something in Visio that did all of that. Then we gave my diagram to Marta Guerra, a senior designer on the Project Accelerator team. She turned the diagram into something easy to follow and very clean with new images/icons for all of the components. I’m still impressed. I know many of you are too because you’ve asked for the Visio stencils.

Unfortunately, Project Accelerator diagrams aren’t done in Visio, but that didn’t stop us from giving you what you wanted. With the help of Marta, I’ve been able to turn these images into a new set of Citrix Visio Stencils.

Get them here!

Enjoy!
